There is a research opportunity with The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
The Supporting Transitions to Adulthood and Reducing Suicide (STARS) study aims to reduce suicidal ideation and behaviors and improve the overall health and well-being of emerging adults identifying as a member of a sexual and/or gender minority. This study is sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and is currently recruiting participants.
STARS is pilot testing the combination of peer mentoring and an app-based intervention. Specific suicide prevention content includes safety planning with a licensed clinician and targeting positive affect, discrimination, and social support. Peer Mentors serving as care navigators will provide resources to affirm participants’ safety plan intentions, as well as overcome obstacles to its use. Eligible individuals for this study are:
-Young adults ages 18-24
-Living in the Philadelphia metropolitan area
-Identifying as a member of a sexual and/or gender minority
-Reporting past-month thoughts about suicide, and
-Able to access to a smartphone.
