Why I Became A Therapist

I became a therapist because I’ve seen firsthand the difference that compassionate, affirming support can make in someone’s life.

Growing up, I found strength and belonging through community spaces that celebrated authenticity and connection. Those early experiences inspired my passion for helping others feel seen, accepted, and empowered to live fully as themselves.

My journey into social work and therapy has been guided by a deep belief that everyone deserves a space where they can heal, grow, and thrive without fear of judgment.

Modalities (at a glance)

How I Work

Hi, I’m Sean (he/him).

At Arrive Therapy, my mission is to create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for individuals, couples, families, and social groups. My approach blends empathy, humor, and evidence-based strategies to foster meaningful progress and genuine connection.

My approach includes:

  • Affirming and Inclusive Care: I provide a space where LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients are fully respected, supported, and celebrated.

  • Collaborative Partnership: Therapy is a shared process- we work together to understand your story, set goals, and build strategies that fit your life.

  • Trauma-Informed Practice: I create safety through compassion, pacing, and empowerment, helping you navigate difficult emotions at your own comfort level.

  • Strengths-Based Focus: We highlight your resilience and inner resources, building confidence and self-awareness along the way.
Creative and Engaging Techniques: I integrate activities like art, games, or puzzles to make sessions interactive and enjoyable.

  • Practical Skill-Building: You’ll leave each session with tools you can use in daily life to manage stress, improve relationships, and enhance well-being.

In every session, I aim to help clients feel valued, understood, and hopeful about their ability to create change.

What to Expect

In our first session, you can expect a welcoming and conversational space where we get to know each other and begin building trust.

We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you hope to work on, and what feels most important to you right now. I’ll ask some background questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and goals, but you’ll always have control over what you choose to share.

By the next session, we’ll start to focus more on your goals and what approaches feel most supportive for you. Together, we’ll begin identifying patterns, exploring coping strategies, and shaping a plan that fits your needs and pace.

Throughout our work, my goal is to create a space that feels safe, affirming, and empowering as you take steps toward healing and growth.

Resources I often share with clients.

Recognizing when therapy might benefit someone you care about—or yourself—can be challenging, especially within a society that often discourages men from expressing vulnerability. Men, particularly those in the LGBTQIA+ community, may face unique obstacles that affect their mental health. For gay men, connecting with an empathetic counselor who understands these specific challenges can be transformative. If you're considering therapy, Counseling for Gay Men offers specialized, affirming support for those navigating identity, stress, relationships, and more.

Directed by Julie Cohen, "Every Body" examines the trauma that many intersex people experience, but ultimately provides a feel-good take on the community.

Decolonizing gender involves challenging and dismantling the dominant Western, colonial perspectives on gender that have been imposed on marginalized communities. It means rejecting the rigid binary view of gender as solely male or female, and embracing a more fluid and expansive understanding of gender identity and expression.

Gender identity is a fundamental aspect of who we are. It shapes our experiences, relationships, and how we see ourselves in the world. For many, expressing this identity is not just a matter of preference but a crucial part of their mental and emotional well-being. This post explores why it’s important to express your gender identity, delving into personal growth, child development, and the broader impact of this expression on our lives. Understanding the importance of Gender-Affirming Therapy in Paoli, PA can further support this journey.
