Microgrants available for trans folks.

Thanks to the Gender Justice Fund (GJF) [via the Trans Resilience Fund], The Welcome Project PA can provide a limited number of short-term and immediate assistance for transgender and gender nonconforming folks or the parents of trans kids in need who reside within Greater Philadelphia, PA.

Grants are restricted to the Greater Philadelphia area and are contingent upon available funding. Applicants must identify as a transgender person or be the guardian of a transgender minor child who resides with you to apply.

All other applications will not be considered.

The Welcome Project PA can provide one-time rapid response micro grants that are designed to help people with the following needs: 

Medical Expenses -

If you have financial needs, we can provide a one-time copay to your healthcare provider or a gift card to a pharmacy near you so that you can pay for your medications. 

  • We can provide you with a pharmacy gift card that will help to cover the cost of your HRT care. Applicants must have a current prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. Gift card will be restricted to the purchase of medication only. Applicants must have received a price for their medications in advance. 

  • We can provide payment to a provider for trans-affirming care for up to $100. Payment is made directly to the provider. 

  •  Applicant must reside in the noted service area above. Applications from other localities will be declined.  

Groceries -

If you are hungry and you cannot afford food, we may be able to help. We can provide you with a grocery store gift card to ensure that you or your transgender child are fed and healthy. Food grants are provided by mail to qualified applicants in the form of a grocery store gift card that may be redeemed at local stores like Giant, Aldi, Acme, Weis. 

  • Applicant must be a transgender person or parent of a transgender minor to apply.

  • Applicant must demonstrate need.

  •  Applicant must reside in the noted service area above. Applications from other localities will be declined.  

Housing -

Please read the following carefully. If you are homeless, facing an imminent threat of homelessness, or need help with rent/utility cost you should first call 2-1-1 which connects you with the Pennsylvania intake system. The operators there can point you toward additional resources and they can help you find shelter quickly.  

  • Rent payments – If you are employed and have sustainable income and are living in a rental unit but are unable to pay your full rent this month, we may be able help.

  • Security Deposits – If you are employed and have sustainable income and have found a rental unit but are unable to afford the security deposit (but can afford to pay monthly rent), we may be able to help.

Transportation/Utilities – 

If you are in danger of having your electricity/gas service cut-off, cannot afford heating oil, if your vehicle is in need of repair or you need access to transportation so that you can get to work, visit the doctor, or take care of your children, we may be able to help.

We help transgender people with basic necessities. This can include help paying for:

  • Utilities / Heating Oil

  • Transportation (Car repair or bus passes)

  • The maximum grant is for $250. Grants are typically paid directly to the vendors.

  • Please note: We do not provide assistance with rideshare services like UBER or LYFT.

  • Applicant must reside in the noted service area above. Applications from other localities will be declined.

Assistance program is designed to help people who:

  • Are transgender/nonbinary or the parent of a transgender minor.

  • Applicant must reside in the noted service area above. Applications from other localities will be declined. 

  • Are already housed but who are struggling to pay their rent or who have secured a lease but need help with a security deposit.

  • Are able to provide a copy of their signed lease.

  • Are able to sustain housing/rent payments once assistance has been provided.

  • Applicant must have secured housing. If you are in need of housing you should call 2-1-1 and/or contact your County Housing Assistance Program.

  • Rent – If approved, the maximum grant is $1,500, although partial grants may also be approved. Funds are paid directly to the landlord. We do not pay for hotels. 

  • Security Deposits – If approved, maximum benefit is $1,500 although a partial grant may be provided. Payment will be made directly to the landlord.
